While it's a great place for Hogwarts students to hang out on a warm spring or summer day, or ice-skating in the winter, the first years cross this monstrous body of water every year to get the full impact of seeing Hogwarts castle.

The noble wizarding sport of Quidditch. House teams practice here, and school-wide Quidditch games are held here too. It's the perfect place to come and relax to watch your friends practice, or to just fly around by yourself.

Not everything out on Hogwarts Grounds is about fun and games. Herbology classes are held out in the greenhouses, located just left outside the castle. This is where students learn about magical plants and other nifty things about their world.

The Forbbidden Forest. Despite its name, students go gallavanting in here all the time just for the thrill of breaking the rules. But they'd best beware - dangerous things walk these woods and might steal them away if they're not looking.

The Whomping Willow is a legend that has spread all throughout Hogwarts. An ancient tree that is somewhat bewitched to attack anyone who approaches it. Of course, that doesn't stop rebels from coming to tease it.

GROUNDS
They marched across the dark grounds. Neville kept sniffling. Harry wondered what their punishment would be.

So many things have happened out on Hogwarts Grounds, and there are plenty beautiful places to head. Like the Whomping WIllow (though it isn't so beautiful), the Forbiddden Forest, the Quidditch Pitch, the Gamekeeper's Hut, the Greenhouses, and the Great Lake.
